Where Does NonSteamLaunchers Install Stores on Deck?

NonSteamLaunchers installs stores into one compatdata prefix called NonSteamLaunchers. Logs sit in Downloads or the Decky log dir.

Last updated

NonSteamLaunchers puts third-party stores inside a single Proton prefix at ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/NonSteamLaunchers. Epic, GOG Galaxy, Ubisoft Connect, EA App, and the rest install their Windows builds into that prefix's drive_c, and Steam shortcuts launch through it. Per-launcher prefixes from older versions merged into this layout.

SD card moves relocate the whole prefix, which keeps shortcuts working only if the tool performs the move. Logs for failed installs sit at ~/Downloads/NonSteamLaunchers-install.log, or under ~/homebrew/logs/NonSteamLaunchers for the Decky plugin version. Check the log before reinstalling; most failures are prefix permission or disk space issues, not broken launchers.

Where NonSteamLaunchers stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/NonSteamLaunchers

Shared Wine prefix with all installed stores and their games inside drive_c. Moved as a unit for SD installs. Shortcuts reference into it, so preserve the exact path.

Frequently asked questions

how do i back up nonsteamlaunchers and its games

Copy the NonSteamLaunchers prefix folder (plus per-launcher prefixes when using separate ids) with Steam closed. That prefix holds every installed store and its games. Shortcuts in Steam point back into it, so keep paths identical.

why do guides disagree on the prefix layout

It consolidates. Since v4 all launchers share one NonSteamLaunchers prefix instead of separate ones (EpicGamesLauncher, GogGalaxyLauncher). Older guides naming per-launcher prefixes describe the retired layout.
