Where Does SteamTinkerLaunch Store Config and Game Settings?

SteamTinkerLaunch keeps global settings, per-game configs by AppID, and logs in one config folder in your home directory.

Last updated

SteamTinkerLaunch builds its whole config tree on first launch under ~/.config/steamtinkerlaunch. Global behavior sits in global.conf, the default template in default_template.conf, and every per-game setup in gamecfgs folders filed by Steam AppID.

That AppID filing is what makes troubleshooting pleasant. When one game's Mod Organizer or ReShade setup breaks, you can reset just its folder without touching the global config or any other game. Logs for the last runs sit in the logs subfolder beside them.

Where SteamTinkerLaunch stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/steamtinkerlaunch

global.conf for universal options, gamecfgs/id for per-game configs named by AppID, logs for recent runs. System-wide defaults ship under /usr/share/steamtinkerlaunch and your files override them.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reset SteamTinkerLaunch for one game only?

Delete that game's files under gamecfgs/id and gamecfgs/title in the config folder. Global settings and every other game's setup stay exactly as they were.

Where are SteamTinkerLaunch logs?

In the logs subfolder of ~/.config/steamtinkerlaunch. Raise verbosity in the global config first if the default logs do not show why a launch failed.
