Where Does Notepadqq Store Settings on Linux?

Notepadqq stores settings in ~/.config/Notepadqq/Notepadqq.ini on Linux, with unsaved tabs cached in tabCache beside it.

Last updated

Notepadqq follows the plain XDG layout. Settings live in Notepadqq.ini inside ~/.config/Notepadqq, and that single folder is the whole backup story.

Unsaved work gets its own corner: open tabs persist to ~/.config/Notepadqq/tabCache on exit when the option is enabled. Pull the plug before an exit and anything since the last quit is gone, so the tab cache is a convenience, not a backup.

Where Notepadqq stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/Notepadqq/Notepadqq.ini

Quit Notepadqq before touching this folder. Shortcuts, toolbar state and recent files all live in the INI; unsaved tab contents sit in the tabCache subdirectory.

Frequently asked questions

Notepadqq is broken and reinstalling does not help. What now?

With Notepadqq closed, delete or rename ~/.config/Notepadqq. It regenerates defaults on next launch. Reinstalling alone never fixes anything, because the package manager leaves that folder in place.

I installed Notepadqq as a snap. Where is its config?

Under ~/snap/notepadqq/current/.config/Notepadqq/, with tabCache in the same spot. Snap confinement gives it a private home, so the normal ~/.config path stays empty.
