Where Does Nothing OS Store Backups?

Nothing Phones back up through Google backup under Settings > Google > Backup. Photos sync separately in Google Photos.

Last updated

Nothing OS keeps no proprietary backup of its own. A Nothing Phone is a fairly stock Android device here: it uses Google backup for apps, contacts, settings, call history, and SMS. Automatic passes run over WiFi after the phone idles on a charger for a couple of hours.

Glyph and launcher layout quirks aside, the move to a new phone is the standard Android dance. Cable the old and new phones together at the Copy apps and data screen, or scan the QR code, and sign into the same Google account. Photos ride along only if Google Photos backup is on, so open that app and check sync first.

Google account cloud backup, not a local folder. Photos and videos need Google Photos sync enabled separately. App-specific data like chats and game progress needs each app own backup feature.

Frequently asked questions

How do I force a backup on a Nothing Phone?

Open Settings, then Google, then Backup, and tap Back up now. Leave the phone on WiFi and charging for a couple of hours for a full pass. Confirm the timestamp updated before wiping or sending the phone for repair.

How do I move data to a new Nothing Phone?

Use a cable or the QR flow during setup with your Google account signed in. Uncheck categories you do not want copied. If an app is missing afterward, reinstall it from the Play Store; some apps never transfer their login or data.
