Where Does the n-tv App Store Data?

n-tv keeps news downloads and session data in private storage on Android and iOS under mismatched platform IDs.

Last updated

News portal n-tv uses unrelated IDs on each platform for historical reasons. The strings come from separate platform history on Android and iOS. Private storage holds the login session for the signed in account. It also holds article cache and broadcast cache tied to that session on the device.

Breaking news comes from servers and loads on demand in the app. Local storage covers cached articles and saved broadcasts from the mediathek. Downloads stay on the old device and do not move alone. After login on the new device, broadcasts can be fetched again from the mediathek. A fresh login restores bookmarks where the same account is signed in.

Where n-tv stores this, by platform

Android
/data/data/de.lineas.lit.ntv.android

Private session and news cache for the verified lineas package. Downloads re fetch from the mediathek.

iOS
/var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/<guid>/Documents

GUID container for the n-tvmobil twin bundle (App Store ID 337056601). Note the ID differs entirely from Android.

Frequently asked questions

Do n-tv downloads transfer phones?

Log into the same account where the downloads were first saved, otherwise downloads stay local on the old device. Private storage keeps broadcasts tied to that session. Re download broadcasts on the new phone from the mediathek after login.

Why do n-tv IDs differ so much?

Android uses de.lineas.lit.ntv.android while iOS uses a de.n-tv.n-tvmobil twin. Same newsroom, unrelated strings from platform history. Confirm in system app info.
