Where Does NZBGet Store Config and Queue Data?
Where NZBGet looks for nzbget.conf in priority order, and where MainDir, queue, and scripts live.
Last updated
NZBGet needs a config file but ships only an example. It searches fixed locations in order (~/.nzbget before /etc/nzbget.conf on Linux) and a stray file early in that order quietly wins. The -c flag pins an exact file when in doubt.
Everything else hangs off MainDir inside that config: the queue database, intermediate files, completed downloads, and scripts. Backups therefore mean the conf file plus the MainDir tree. The Settings > Paths page prints the live values, which beat any documented default.
Where NZBGet stores this, by platform
~/.nzbget
First user config candidate; package installs more often use /etc/nzbget.conf instead. MainDir defaults to ~/downloads with queue/, nzb/, and intermediate/ beneath it. The queue dir holds history and RSS state, so include it in backups.
/etc/nzbget.conf
System wide candidate used by distro packages and service installs. Same MainDir structure once loaded. Check the web UI footer or settings for the path the running daemon actually read.
Frequently asked questions
which nzbget.conf is actually loaded
NZBGet checks several spots in order (~/.nzbget then /etc/nzbget.conf on POSIX) and uses the first it finds, or the -c path if given. A stray old file earlier in the order silently wins. The web UI Settings page shows the loaded path, which settles it.
how do i migrate nzbget to a new machine
Stop the daemon and copy nzbget.conf plus the QueueDir tree (queue, history, RSS state) to the new box. Re point MainDir if the disk layout changed. Scripts in scriptdir travel with the conf, so copy that folder too.
where are nzbget queue and downloads
In MainDir subfolders: queue/ for the live queue and history, intermediate/ for active downloads, completed/ per category defaults. QueueDir grows fastest, so keep it on local fast storage rather than a network mount.
