Where Are Octopath Traveler Save Files Located?

The first Octopath Traveler keeps saves in Documents My Games under a Steam ID folder, with autosave and slots apart.

Last updated

The original Octopath Traveler stores saves the Square Enix PC way. Slot files and the autosave live in a SaveGames folder under Documents My Games, inside an Octopath_Traveler folder named with your numeric Steam ID. SystemData.sav holds configuration beside them.

That ID folder decides restores. Saves copied into the wrong numbered folder silently fail to appear, which reads as corruption. Match the destination ID on the new machine and copy with the game closed. Steam Cloud mirrors the same tree for safety.

Where Octopath Traveler stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Octopath_Traveler[SteamID]\SaveGames

Paste %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Octopath_Traveler into Explorer. SaveData0 is the autosave, numbered files are manual slots. Match the Steam ID folder on restores.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Octopath Traveler saves?

Copy the whole SaveGames folder with the game closed. SystemData.sav carries system settings while SaveData files carry the eight stories. Restore into the matching Steam ID folder on the new PC.

Do saves transfer between Octopath games?

No. The first game uses an Octopath_Traveler folder while the sequel uses Octopath_Traveler2 and the prequel a Traveler0 folder. Each reads only its own tree, so keep the three backups apart.
