Where Does Onyx Boox Store Notes and Backups?

Where Onyx Boox tablets keep notes, backups, and exports in internal storage, plus how cloud sync moves them.

Last updated

Boox tablets run Android but hide raw notes in a private database. What you can see in Storage is the note folder with backups, exports, and optional PDFs. Full backups created from Notes then Backup and Restore land under note backup local. That folder is the one to copy for migration.

Cloud sync through your ONYX account covers the same notes when toggled per notebook. Each note has its own sync switch plus a global setting. If a note will not sync, check both. For PC access, export as PDF or .note from Share and Export, then copy the indicated file from internal storage.

Backups land here after using Backup and Restore in Notes. Copy the folder to a PC for safekeeping. Raw handwriting itself lives in a private database, not as loose files.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Boox notes to a new tablet?

Open Notes, tap the menu, then Backup and Restore, and create a backup. It lands in note backup local inside internal storage. Copy that folder to a PC over USB. On the new tablet place the folder in the same path and use Restore. Cloud sync via your ONYX account also moves notes if enabled.

Why can I not find my note files in storage?

Raw notes live in a private app database you cannot browse, which is why the folder looks empty. Turn on the option to generate a PDF after exiting a note. Those PDFs appear in the note folder and can be synced with third party tools. Use Backup and Restore for full fidelity instead.
