Where Does Opera Store Its Profile and Cache?
Opera and Opera GX profile folders on Windows, macOS and Linux, plus the cache subfolder to empty when Opera eats disk space.

Opera is Chromium underneath, but it does not reuse Chrome's folder names. Its user data folder carries a product-specific name, Opera Stable for the regular browser and Opera GX Stable for GX, with the profile itself in a Default folder inside it.
The browser prints both paths you care about. Type opera://about into the address bar, or use Menu > Help > About Opera, and the Paths section lists the profile folder and the cache folder for the running install. That page matters on Linux, where a .deb, a snap and a Flatpak each keep their files in a different tree.
The cache subfolder is the one worth emptying when Opera starts eating disk space. It refills as you browse, and clearing it costs you nothing but a few cold page loads.
Where Opera stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\Opera Software\Opera Stable
Opera Stable for the regular browser and Opera GX Stable for GX, both under %APPDATA%\Opera Software. The cache sits deeper, under Default\Cache with Code Cache and GPUCache next to it, and that is the folder to clear when the browser grows on disk. Opera is unusual in keeping this tree in Roaming rather than Local AppData.
~/Library/Application Support/com.operasoftware.Opera
That bundle-style name is correct for Opera Stable on macOS; Opera GX uses ~/Library/Application Support/com.operasoftware.OperaGX instead. Library is hidden in Finder, so use Go > Go to Folder and paste the path, or read the profile path straight from opera://about.
~/.config/opera
The native .deb and .rpm packages use ~/.config/opera, and Opera GX uses ~/.config/opera-gx. Snap installs live under ~/snap/opera and Flatpak installs under ~/.var/app/com.opera.Opera, so if the folder you expect is missing, check opera://about rather than guessing. Each of these is a hidden folder, so show hidden files first.
Frequently asked questions
where does opera keep its cache
Inside the profile, under the Default folder: %APPDATA%\Opera Software\Opera Stable\Default\Cache on Windows, with Code Cache and GPUCache alongside it. opera://about prints the exact cache path for your install, which is the one to clear when disk space runs low.
where is my opera gx profile
On Windows it is %APPDATA%\Opera Software\Opera GX Stable, on macOS ~/Library/Application Support/com.operasoftware.OperaGX, and on Linux ~/.config/opera-gx. The GX layout matches Opera Stable, only the folder name changes between the two products.
how do i find my opera profile folder
Type opera://about into the address bar, or open Menu > Help > About Opera. The Paths section lists the profile folder and the cache folder for the version actually running, which settles the question when an install, snap or Flatpak puts things somewhere unexpected.
