Where Does Oryx Store Keyboard Layouts?

Oryx edits ZSA keyboard layouts in the browser with JSON download for backup. Flash firmware with Wally or Keymory; Oryx only designs.

Last updated

Oryx is the web configurator for ZSA keyboards. Layouts with layers, combos, and macros edit live in the browser with JSON and firmware downloads for safekeeping. The keyboard stores the flashed result onboard.

That makes downloaded files the portable unit: browsers forget, files persist. Exact behaviors may vary by board revision. Flash with Wally after every real change; Oryx edits alone change nothing on hardware. Combos trigger multi-key chords. Tap-dance layers double-tap actions. Mod-morphs shift keys contextually.

Where Oryx stores this, by platform

Windows
Oryx > Download JSON (browser download)

Live layouts in browser; portable copies are downloaded files. Flash with Wally over USB. Keep one JSON per board revision.

macOS
Oryx > Download JSON (browser download)

Same download model as Windows through Chromium browsers. Onboard firmware covers travel. Re-import JSON to edit later.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up my Oryx layout?

Design the layout in Oryx, then download the JSON and firmware files for keeps. Browser storage alone evaporates with cache clears. Re-import JSON to edit later on any machine.

How do I flash the keyboard?

Download the firmware from Oryx and flash it with the Wally tool over USB. Keep a known-good firmware file for recovery. Layout edits never touch the board until flashed.
