Where Does OsmAnd Store Maps and Tracks?

OsmAnd defaults to Android/data/net.osmand.plus/files. Newer Android may force a move to Android/media for file access.

Last updated

OsmAnd keeps maps, tracks, and favorites in one data folder you can relocate from settings. The default sits in Android/data, which newer Android versions hide from other apps. That hiding breaks manual backup and sync for a lot of people.

The practical fix is the media path variant. Same folder name, different parent, far fewer permission fights. Check the current path in settings before copying anything, since upgrades sometimes change it silently.

Where OsmAnd stores this, by platform

Android
/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/net.osmand.plus/files

Default on fresh installs. Contains maps, tracks, favorites, and tile caches. Hidden from most file managers on Android 13+ without special access.

Android
/storage/emulated/0/Android/media/net.osmand.plus

Recommended when sync or manual backup matters. Set it under Settings, then OsmAnd settings, then Data storage folder. OsmAnd moves existing files itself.

iOS
Files/On My iPhone/OsmAnd Maps

Visible in the Files app under On My iPhone. Same role as the Android data folder, without the permission maze.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make OsmAnd maps visible to my file manager?

Open Settings, then OsmAnd settings, then Data storage folder, and pick Manually specified with a path under Android/media/net.osmand.plus. That tree stays visible to file managers and sync apps.

How do I move OsmAnd to a new phone?

Copy the whole data storage folder from the old phone to the same path on the new one before first launch, or export a profile from settings. The folder copy preserves maps, tracks, and favorites together.

Where are OsmAnd files on iPhone?

Open the Files app, then On My iPhone, then OsmAnd Maps. Tracks, favorites, and rendering files all sit there and import through the same view.
