Where Are Palworld Save Files Located?

Palworld save paths for Steam on Windows and Steam Deck, plus where co-op worlds and dedicated server saves live and how to restore a backup.

Last updated

Palworld keeps single-player and co-op worlds in your Windows user profile, not in the Steam folder where the game is installed. The tree has three levels: a folder named after your Steam ID, a hex-named world folder inside it, and inside that Level.sav, LevelMeta.sav and the Players files.

A dedicated server stores its worlds somewhere else: inside the server's own install folder, with a literal 0 where your Steam ID would be. Steam Deck players get the Windows layout again, wrapped inside Proton's compatdata folder for app 1623730.

Palworld also keeps its own rotating backups, written every 30 seconds into a backup folder per world. The world select screen has a Restore from Backup Data button and a folder icon that opens the save directory for you.

Where Palworld stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Pal\Saved\SaveGames\<SteamID>\<WorldID>

Paste %LOCALAPPDATA%\Pal\Saved\SaveGames into the File Explorer address bar to skip the hidden AppData folders. The numeric folder is your Steam ID64 and it is part of the layout: each world is a 32-character hex folder inside it, holding Level.sav, LevelMeta.sav and a Players subfolder with one .sav per character. Sort by date modified to find the world you played last, and copy the whole Steam ID folder if you want the game's own backups included.

Linux
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1623730/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Pal/Saved/SaveGames

Proton runs the Windows build, so the Windows path appears inside the prefix for app ID 1623730. The Steam root can also be ~/.steam/steam or the Flatpak location ~/.var/app/com.valvesoftware.Steam/.local/share/Steam, so the start of the path varies while the tail stays the same. From Desktop mode, show hidden files in Dolphin and dig down, or use the folder icon on the world select screen.

Frequently asked questions

where is my palworld save file windows

Press Win+R, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Pal\Saved\SaveGames and press Enter. The numeric folder inside is your Steam ID, and each hex folder under it is one world. The steamapps folder never contains saves, which surprises people looking there first.

where are palworld saves on steam deck

In Desktop mode: ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1623730/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Pal/Saved/SaveGames. That is the Windows path inside Proton, and the Steam ID and world folders inside work exactly as they do on a PC.

where does a palworld dedicated server save

In the server's install folder under Pal\Saved\SaveGames\0, where 0 replaces your Steam ID. In Steam, set the library filter to Tools, right-click Palworld Dedicated Server, then Manage and Browse local files to reach it.
