Where Does pgAdmin Store Config and Server List?
pgAdmin keeps its SQLite config database in ~/.pgadmin on Linux and AppData on Windows.
Last updated
pgAdmin 4 centers on one SQLite file holding server definitions, preferences, and query history. Linux builds use ~/.pgadmin/pgadmin4.db, Windows uses AppData Roaming pgAdmin, macOS uses Application Support pgAdmin. Container runs mount the same path as a volume.
Back up that database with pgAdmin stopped. Passwords may need the master password on restore. Export server JSON from the UI too as a readable spare for migrations.
Where pgAdmin stores this, by platform
C:\Users\[You]\AppData\Roaming\pgAdmin
SQLite config database plus sessions. Copy with pgAdmin closed. Master password travels with the user, so keep it noted.
~/Library/Application Support/pgAdmin
Same database role. Library is hidden in Finder. UI server export works identically for cross platform moves.
~/.pgadmin
pgadmin4.db plus logs. Docker setups bind this path as a volume. Fix ownership after copies between users.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move pgAdmin servers?
Copy the config database to the matching OS path, or import the UI exported server JSON. Re-enter stored passwords where the master password differs.
Where is the pgAdmin master password?
Set per install at first launch, guarding saved server passwords. Losing it means retyping credentials, not losing server definitions.
