Where Does Photomatix Store Custom Presets?
Photomatix reads custom presets from a Presets folder in its Roaming data on Windows and Application Support on Mac.
Last updated
Custom Photomatix presets are plain files in a Presets folder inside the app's user data. Drop a downloaded preset there, restart, and it appears under the My Presets tab. The same trick moves presets between machines.
If the Presets folder does not exist yet, just create it with that exact name. There is also a slower but official route: open My Presets, use the dropdown, and choose Import Presets. Both end up in the same place.
Where Photomatix stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\HDRsoft\PhotomatixPro\Presets
Copy preset files here and restart Photomatix. They show under My Presets. Create the folder yourself if a fresh install has not made one yet.
~/Library/Application Support/Photomatix/Presets
Same idea as Windows. Hold Option and use Go > Library in Finder to reach it, since Library is hidden. Or skip Finder entirely with the Import Presets menu inside the app.
Frequently asked questions
I downloaded presets. How do I install them?
Unzip, copy the files into the Presets folder above, and relaunch Photomatix. They appear under My Presets. If you prefer menus, pick My Presets, open the dropdown, and use Import Presets to pull them in one file at a time.
My custom presets vanished after an update. Why?
Major updates sometimes install beside the old version with a fresh user data folder. Check the previous version's Presets path for your files and copy them over. Keeping a backup copy in Documents avoids the scramble entirely.
