Where Does PlantNet Store Observations and Photos?

Where PlantNet keeps observations and offline data on Android and iPhone, and what syncs to your account.

Last updated

PlantNet ties identified plants to your account once uploaded. The phone holds the camera photos, drafts, and cache in private storage until then. File managers show only shared copies you saved yourself, which confuses people hunting for a photo folder.

On Android a PlantNet folder may appear under shared storage for exports, but the observation database is private. On iPhone everything sits in the app container until shared to Files. Treat the web account as the backup. Local copies are handy for field work without signal, not for long term archiving.

Where PlantNet stores this, by platform

Android
/sdcard/Android/data/org.plantnet

Observations sync to your PlantNet account once uploaded. Drafts and cache live privately. A shared PlantNet folder may hold exports on some versions, varying by release.

iOS
On My iPhone/PlantNet

Observations live in the PlantNet container under On My iPhone. Sign in to restore the flora list, then reupload any pending drafts. Share photos to Files to keep copies outside the app.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move PlantNet observations to a new phone?

Sign in on the new phone and your flora observations return from the account. Photos you never uploaded stay in private storage and do not transfer. Upload pending observations over WiFi first, then verify them on the PlantNet web map before wiping the old phone.

Do PlantNet observations survive a reinstall?

Partly. Submitted observations live in your account and on the web. Drafts and camera roll copies waiting for upload live only on the phone. The app database with drafts is private, so export or upload weekly if you identify plants often.
