Where Does PM2 Store Processes and Logs?

PM2 keeps its process list, dump file, and logs in ~/.pm2 with one log pair per managed app.

Last updated

PM2 stores runtime state in a dot folder in your home directory. The process list, dump file for resurrect, and per app logs all live under .pm2. Ecosystem files in projects only describe what to launch.

Logs split into output and error files per app with automatic prefixes. Resurrect replays the dump file from the same folder on boot. Deleting the folder with PM2 stopped resets everything to a clean slate.

Where PM2 stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.pm2

Process list, dump.pm2, and logs per app live here. Ecosystem files stay in projects. Reset by deleting with the daemon stopped.

macOS
~/.pm2

Same home folder layout on Mac. Launchd integration resurrects from the dump file. Logs rotate per app prefix.

Windows
C:\Users\[username]\.pm2

Same tree under your profile. Windows service integration reads the same dump. Keep the folder out of synced drives.

Frequently asked questions

Where are my PM2 app logs?

In the logs folder under .pm2 with out and error files per app. View them live with pm2 logs. Flush or reload to rotate on demand.

How do I move PM2 apps to a new machine?

Copy project folders with ecosystem files, then start fresh on the new host. The dump file rarely transfers well. Save a new dump after launch.
