Where Does PotPlayer Store Settings?

PotPlayer registry versus INI settings on Windows, and why updates wipe them.

Last updated

PotPlayer defaults to the registry (HKCU\Software\DAUM\PotPlayerMini64, name tracking the exe and bitness), holding everything including playback progress. Checking Store settings to INI file moves future edits to %APPDATA%\PotPlayerMini64\PotPlayerMini64.ini instead.

Updates are the enemy: they often wipe registry settings and uncheck INI mode, leaving a renamed BAK behind. Export the registry key plus the INI folder before updating. Portable life needs a writable folder outside Program Files with the ini beside the exe; skins (.dsf) install through the Open Skin Folder action. Windows only.

Where PotPlayer stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\PotPlayerMini64\PotPlayerMini64.ini

INI mode (opt in via Preferences, General). Default is registry HKCU\Software\DAUM\PotPlayerMini64 (suffix follows exe name and bitness). Portable keeps ini beside exe in a writable folder. Skins in Program Files\DAUM\PotPlayer\Skins. Windows only.

Frequently asked questions

PotPlayer forgot all my settings after updating. How do I prevent it?

Back up the registry key and the Roaming INI folder before every update. Updates reset both paths and uncheck INI mode, so restore the copies and re-tick the checkbox after.

How do I run PotPlayer portably?

Install outside Program Files into a writable folder so the ini sits beside the exe. That pair carries settings, playlists and skins together with no registry dependency.
