Where Does PTGui Store Settings and Templates?

PTGui keeps Configuration.xml, templates, and batch lists in one config folder on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Last updated

All of PTGui's memory lives in a single configuration folder: Configuration.xml plus the default homes for templates and batch lists. Copy that folder to a new machine and PTGui feels instantly familiar.

The fastest way to find it is inside the app: Tools, Open Folder, PTGui Configuration Folder. Template storage itself is adjustable under Tools, Options, Folders and Files (or Preferences on Mac), so your templates may live somewhere else if you ever changed that setting.

Where PTGui stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\PTGui

Configuration.xml plus default template and batch list folders. Open it from Tools > Open Folder > PTGui Configuration Folder. Back up the whole folder before reinstalling.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/PTGui/

Same contents as Windows. Change the templates location under PTGui menu > Preferences > Folders&Files if you keep templates with your photo archive.

Linux
$HOME/.PTGui/

Hidden folder in your home directory. Same Configuration.xml layout. Show hidden files in your file manager, or paste the path into the location bar.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move PTGui settings to a new computer?

Copy the entire configuration folder from the old machine to the same path on the new one, with PTGui closed. Templates travel too, unless you stored them in a custom folder, in which case copy that as well and recheck Folders&Files.

PTGui behaves oddly after an update. How do I reset it?

Quit PTGui, rename Configuration.xml to something like Configuration.old, and relaunch. A clean default file is created. If the problem disappears, the old file was corrupt. You can compare the two to rescue custom bits.
