Where Does QKSMS Store Messages and Backups?

QKSMS keeps messages in Android system SMS storage. Its own sandbox holds prefs, and backups export as JSON.

Last updated

QKSMS is a view over system SMS storage. Messages belong to Android, settings belong to the app sandbox. That split decides every backup plan.

The JSON backup carries messages plus settings out of the sandbox. Without it, a reinstall keeps your texts (they are systemic) but loses themes, blocked lists, and scheduled sends.

Preferences, themes, and scheduled sends. Needs root to browse. Backup JSON is the migration route.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move QKSMS messages to a new phone?

Use QKSMS backup to write a JSON file, then restore it on the new phone and set QKSMS as default SMS app. System SMS restores need default-app status to write.

Where are my actual text messages?

Your texts live in the shared system SMS provider, not in QKSMS files. Any SMS app shows the same inbox. QKSMS only owns its settings and theme.

Do scheduled messages survive reinstall?

Yes for scheduled sends. They live in the QKSMS sandbox and vanish on uninstall. Export a backup before wiping.
