Where Does QLab Save Workspaces?
QLab workspaces, project folders and backups on Mac, and the save option that keeps media together.
Last updated
QLab workspaces are .qlab5 documents saved wherever you choose. There is no fixed show folder. macOS save dialog decides the spot, often Documents or a per show project folder.
The setting that matters is on first save. Project folder mode copies targeted audio into audio/, video into video/ and MIDI into midi/, plus a backups/ folder if enabled. Fonts and AudioUnits never copy, so install those by hand on the playback Mac.
Where QLab stores this, by platform
~/Documents/*.qlab5
Workspaces use the .qlab5 extension. Keep the workspace inside its project folder with audio/, video/, midi/ and backups/ beside it. Relative paths keep the show portable. Preferences live in ~/Library/Preferences under com.figure53 entries.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move a QLab show to another Mac?
Use File > Bundle Workspace. That copies the workspace plus every targeted media file into one folder. Moving a bare .qlab5 file leaves audio and video behind.
Which save option should I pick for a new show?
Pick Save workspace and media to a new project folder. QLab sorts audio, video and MIDI into subfolders and keeps backups there too. Save workspace only skips the copying.
