Where Does qpdfview Store Settings?

qpdfview keeps its config, per-file history, and database in a qpdfview folder under ~/.config.

Last updated

qpdfview splits state in two, per its man page. Settings live as qpdfview.conf under ~/.config/qpdfview, while per-file positions, bookmarks, and tabs sit in a SQLite database at the oddly nested ~/.local/share/data/qpdfview/qpdfview. Copy both folders to migrate completely.

The database file inside tracks open documents and their page positions, which is why quitting cleanly matters. A crash can leave it stale. Delete the folder with qpdfview closed for a full reset to defaults.

Where qpdfview stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/qpdfview/

Config, history, and the per-file database. Respects XDG_CONFIG_HOME when set. Copy the whole folder with qpdfview closed to migrate. Delete it for a clean reset.

Frequently asked questions

Does qpdfview remember where I stopped reading?

Yes, per file, in its config database. Reopening a document jumps back to the saved page. Clearing history in settings wipes those positions along with the recent files list.

How do I reset qpdfview settings?

Quit qpdfview and delete ~/.config/qpdfview/. Defaults return on next launch. Back the folder up first if you only suspect one bad option, since the reset also clears reading history.
