Where Is the qt6ct Config File?
qt6ct stores theme, fonts and icons in ~/.config/qt6ct/qt6ct.conf, with palettes and styles in nearby folders.
Last updated
qt6ct bridges Qt6 apps on desktops without Qt integration. Its GUI edits ~/.config/qt6ct/qt6ct.conf (theme, fonts, icons), while custom style sheets and color schemes live in qss/ and colors/ beside it or under ~/.local/share.
The classic failure is a perfect config that never loads. Qt only consults qt6ct when QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt6ct is exported, so verify the variable before restyling anything twice.
Where qt6ct stores this, by platform
~/.config/qt6ct/qt6ct.conf
Theme, fonts, icons. Palettes in colors/, styles in qss/ (also under ~/.local/share). Defaults ship in /etc/xdg/qt6ct/qt6ct.conf. Requires QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt6ct exported.
Frequently asked questions
I configured qt6ct but Qt apps look unchanged. Why?
Export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt6ct (via ~/.profile and relogin, or /etc/X11/Xsession.d/100-qt6ct system-wide). Without that variable, Qt ignores qt6ct completely.
Is running the qt6ct GUI enough?
No. The GUI writes qt6ct.conf, but the env var is what routes Qt through the qt6ct platform plugin. Both halves are required.
