Where Does Relai Store Bitcoin and Backup?

Relai is non-custodial: your bitcoin lives behind a 12-word seed phrase, not a Relai account. History shows in-app; the phrase is the backup.

Last updated

Relai holds no bitcoin and no accounts. The app is a non-custodial wallet: coins live on-chain behind keys derived from your 12-word recovery phrase. Relai the company cannot restore, freeze, or see your balance.

That design makes the phrase the entire backup story. In-app history, autosave plans, and fee settings are conveniences; the words are ownership. Bank transfers for buys reference your own accounts, so keep purchase receipts separately for tax time. Lose the phrase and support cannot help, by construction.

Where Relai stores this, by platform

Android
Relai app > Backup (12-word recovery phrase)

No account exists; the 12-word phrase owns the coins. Never screenshot or cloud-store it. History rebuilds from chain on restore with the phrase.

iOS
Relai app > Backup (12-word recovery phrase)

Same non-custodial model as Android. Write the phrase on paper before buying. Purchase receipts stay with your bank for taxes.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up my Relai wallet?

Open backup settings and write the 12 words on paper, stored apart from the phone. Screenshots and cloud notes defeat the purpose; anyone with the words owns the coins. Verify the backup inside the app before funding real amounts.

How do I move Relai to a new phone?

Reinstall Relai on the new phone and choose restore with the 12-word phrase. Transaction history rebuilds from the blockchain; no Relai login exists to recover. Without the phrase, the coins are gone permanently.
