Where Does Remmina Store Connections and Settings?

Remmina keeps profiles in ~/.config/remmina and runtime data under ~/.local/share/remmina.

Last updated

Remmina splits profiles from state. Each connection lives as a .remmina file in ~/.config/remmina with servers, credentials references, and display options. Runtime data like screenshots and the stats file sit under ~/.local/share/remmina.

Passwords stay in the login keyring by default, not beside the profiles. Copying profiles moves everything except secrets. Flatpak installs mirror both trees under the app data folder.

Where Remmina stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/remmina

remmina.pref plus one .remmina file per connection. Copy with Remmina closed. Flatpak equivalent is ~/.var/app/org.remmina.Remmina/config/remmina.

Linux
~/.local/share/remmina

Screenshots and runtime state. Small folder. Include it for exact restores, though profiles matter far more.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Remmina connections?

Copy the .remmina files to the matching config path and re-enter passwords from the keyring. Test each connection once before deleting the old host.

Where are Remmina passwords stored?

In the login keyring (libsecret) unless set otherwise. File copies alone prompt for passwords on the new machine by design.
