Where Does RetroBat Store ROMs and Saves?

Where RetroBat keeps ROMs, BIOS files, saves and settings in its portable folder.

Last updated

RetroBat is portable. The folder you extracted it to is the whole install: ROMs per system, a bios folder, a saves folder and the emulator configs alongside them. There is no AppData copy to hunt down.

Each system gets its own ROMs subfolder (roms\psx, roms\snes and so on). Savesland under saves\ when you use in-emulator saving. Symbolic links work well if the collection outgrows the drive.

Where RetroBat stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\RetroBat\

Portable install root. ROMs go in roms\[system], firmware in bios\, save files under saves\. Move the entire folder to relocate everything. Run from a short local path to avoid permission quirks with some emulators.

Frequently asked questions

Where do BIOS files go in RetroBat?

Drop them at the root of the bios folder. A few systems want subfolders instead, so check that system page on the RetroBat wiki when a game boots to a BIOS error.

How do I move RetroBat to a bigger drive?

Copy the whole RetroBat folder. ROMs, saves, BIOS and emulator configs all travel together since nothing lives in AppData. Re-run the installer-free exe on the new PC from the copied path.
