Where Does RimPy Store Rules and Load Order?
RimPy keeps its rules in %AppData%\LocalLow\RimPy Mod Manager while reading RimWorld's own ModsConfig and saves from the Ludeon folder.
Last updated
RimPy manages load order without owning the files, which splits its footprint in two. Its own state (custom rules, database) sits in a RimPy Mod Manager folder under LocalLow. The authoritative mod list, ModsConfig.xml, belongs to RimWorld itself in the Ludeon Studios folder.
That division decides every fix. Sorting trouble points at RimPy's rules; missing-mods trouble points at the Config folder RimWorld writes. Deleting ModsConfig is safe (the game rebuilds it) but resets the load order, so back it up before experimenting.
Where RimPy stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\RimPy Mod Manager
RimPy's own rules and database (userCreatedRules.json and friends). RimPy logs sit beside its executable in a logs folder. The RimWorld mod list itself lives in the Ludeon folder below.
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Ludeon Studios\RimWorld by Ludeon Studios\Config
ModsConfig.xml with the load order plus game and mod settings. Steam Workshop mods arrive via steamapps/workshop/content/294100. Native Linux and Proton layouts mirror each other through compatdata.
Frequently asked questions
RimPy says there is no mod config. What creates it?
Open the game once, close it, then open RimPy. RimPy reads the active mod list RimWorld generates on first run; without that file there is nothing to sort yet.
How do I move a RimWorld load order by hand?
Copy ModsConfig.xml from the Config folder into the matching spot (native or Proton prefix). It is plain XML listing load order, so hand-editing works when managers disagree.
