Where Are Roboquest Save Files Located?

Roboquest keeps Steam saves in AppData\Local\RoboQuest\Saved\SaveGames (RQProfile.sav matters most), Game Pass saves in its package folder, and Linux runs the Windows tree in Proton.

Last updated

Roboquest splits saves by store in classic Unreal fashion. Steam builds write to AppData Local RoboQuest Saved SaveGames with RQProfile.sav holding progression. Game Pass builds bury saves in the Packages container tree with per install folder names. Linux plays the Windows build through Proton with the same tree inside.

Cloud sync is the hazard here. Community wisdom says disable it and move RQProfile.sav manually, since overwrites with fresh saves happen. The file names tell their roles apart: profile for progress, controls and settings for the rest.

Where Roboquest stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\RoboQuest\Saved\SaveGames

RQProfile.sav is the progression file that matters. Copy the folder with the game closed. Disable Steam Cloud to stop overwrites.

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\RyseupStudios.Roboquest

Game Pass container saves under wgs with hashed names. Rename into RQ style names when importing to Steam. Run each version once so folders exist first.

Linux
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/692890/pfx/

Proton prefix for app ID 692890 mirroring the Windows tree. Steam root varies by install. Copy saves out before Proton reinstalls.

Frequently asked questions

Did Steam Cloud eat my Roboquest progress?

Turn Steam Cloud off for Roboquest and copy saves by hand between machines. Cloud has a habit of overwriting progress with empty new saves. Copy the SaveGames folder with the game closed on both ends.

How do I move a Game Pass save to Steam?

Find the RyseupStudios package folder under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages, dig into SystemAppData\wgs for the container files, and rename them to RQProfile.sav style names in the Steam folder. Run the game once first so the target folders exist.
