Where Are Satisfactory Save Files Located?

Satisfactory SaveGames folder on Windows and Linux, why Steam and Epic use ID subfolders, and where backups land.

Last updated

Satisfactory stores factories under AppData/Local/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames in an ID subfolder per account. Steam IDs are short numbers, Epic IDs run longer. Start one new game on a fresh install and the folder appears.

Overwrites keep one backup of the previous version in a SaveGames_backup sibling. Autosaves do not stack the same way. The game prints this path on the loading screen, which is worth reading once instead of clicking past. Linux Proton nests the same tree under compatdata 526870.

Where Satisfactory stores this, by platform

Windows
%localappdata%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames\[UserID]

Paste into the Explorer address bar. Each .sav file is one factory. Backups sit in SaveGames_backup next door. Epic and Steam share the parent but use different ID folders.

Linux
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/526870/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Local Settings/Application Data/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames

Proton path for AppID 526870. The Steam root varies (~/.steam/steam versus ~/.local/share/Steam). Search compatdata/526870 for SaveGames if your library moved drives.

Frequently asked questions

I own Satisfactory on Epic and Steam, where is each save?

Both live under FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames but in different ID subfolders. Launch each version once and save to reveal its folder, then label backups by store so the two never mix.

How do I restore a Satisfactory backup?

Close the game, copy the .sav from SaveGames_backup into your ID folder, and rename if needed to avoid collisions. Relaunch and load it once before letting cloud sync run.
