Where Are SCUM Save Files Located?

SCUM single player saves live in a SaveFiles folder as SCUM.db. Multiplayer characters stay on the server, and Steam Cloud will not help you.

Last updated

SCUM splits storage in two. Single player lives on your PC as a database file called SCUM.db with timestamped backups beside it. Multiplayer characters live on whatever server you play on, so there is nothing local to copy for those.

SCUM does not use Steam Cloud, which surprises people after a reinstall. Copy the SaveFiles folder somewhere safe before wiping the Saved directory or reinstalling Windows. The developers themselves recommend exactly this before any Saved folder delete.

Where SCUM stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\SCUM\Saved\SaveFiles

SCUM.db is the live single player save. Files with backup suffixes plus timestamps are older restore points. Rename a backup to SCUM.db to roll back.

Frequently asked questions

how do i back up my SCUM single player save?

Copy SCUM.db out of the SaveFiles folder to another drive before you touch anything. That one file plus its backups is your whole character. Multiplayer needs no backup since the server holds it.

why is continue greyed out after reinstalling SCUM?

The game creates its Saved tree on first launch, and a pasted in SCUM.db only registers if the folders already exist. Launch once, create a throwaway character so the structure builds, then drop your backup SCUM.db into SaveFiles.
