Where Does SeedVault Store Backups?
SeedVault writes encrypted local backups to USB, Nextcloud or on-device storage, not to a cloud account.
Last updated
SeedVault is the open backup app built into several privacy ROMs rather than a standalone cloud service. It keeps no provider storage of its own. Backup targets are a USB stick, a Nextcloud over WebDAV, or on-device storage holding a backup folder with per-app archives and metadata.
The system package must come integrated with the ROM, since a manual copy of private app folders never replaces a proper restore. Restores run during setup on the new device, not from inside a running system. Save the recovery code apart from the backup medium, because the archives stay unreadable without it.

System backup app package. Targets hold .SeedVaultAndroidBackup with per-app archives. Restore runs during setup wizard on the new ROM.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up with SeedVault?
Open Settings, System, Backup on a SeedVault integrated ROM (Calyx, Divest, iodé, /e/OS). Pick USB, Nextcloud WebDAV or on-device storage. Restores apply during new device setup, not mid-life.
Where are SeedVault files on the target?
Look for .SeedVaultAndroidBackup on the chosen target. Each app contributes an encrypted archive plus metadata. Without the recovery code the folder is unreadable, which is the point.
