Where Does Textra Store Messages and Settings?
Textra reads the system SMS database with settings in app data on Android.
Last updated
Textra keeps no separate message store: it reads and writes the Android system SMS/MMS database directly, adding its own layer of themes, bubble styles, schedules, reactions and per conversation settings in app data.
That architecture decides backups. Messages move with the system database through SMS Backup and Restore or device transfer tools, never through Textra itself. Textra preferences (colors, emoji style, delays) rebuild by hand unless the app data travels with a full device migration.
Where Textra stores this, by platform
System SMS database (messages) plus app data (themes and schedules)
Scheduled messages and send delays live in Textra data. Back up the system database with SMS Backup and Restore to XML (local plus Drive/Dropbox/OneDrive), then restore into the stock app on the new phone.
Frequently asked questions
how do I move Textra messages to a new phone
Back up the system SMS database with SMS Backup and Restore on the old phone, transfer the XML, and restore on the new one with Textra set appropriately. Textra then displays the restored system messages.
do Textra settings transfer with messages
No. Themes, bubble styles and schedules live in Textra app data, separate from messages. Full device migration carries them; SMS backups carry messages only.
