Where Are Sekiro Save Files Located?

Sekiro S0000.sl2 save path on Windows and Linux, how the Steam ID folder works, and how to back up before risky bosses.

Last updated

Sekiro keeps everything in a single S0000.sl2 file inside a Roaming/Sekiro folder named with your Steam ID. One file holds all characters plus system settings. Graphics options sit beside it as XML files.

Back up the whole Sekiro folder before attempts that might corrupt progress, and pause Steam Cloud during restores or the cloud copy wins. The folder is per Steam account, so a second account on the same PC gets its own numbered directory. The .bak beside the save is the previous session copy the game keeps. Graphics settings live in GraphicsConfig.xml one level up.

Where Sekiro stores this, by platform

Windows
%appdata%\Sekiro\[SteamID64]\S0000.sl2

Paste %appdata%\Sekiro into Explorer. Copy the full Sekiro folder with the game closed. Keep backups outside AppData so live and spare copies never mix.

Linux
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/814380/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/Sekiro

Proton path for AppID 814380. The Steam root varies by distro, so search compatdata/814380 for Sekiro if your library lives elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions

Can I move a Sekiro save to another Steam account?

Only with hex editing of the Steam ID bytes plus a checksum fix, which is fiddly and easy to break. For the same account on a new PC, just copy the Sekiro folder to the same path.

Does Sekiro use Steam Cloud?

Yes. Close the game, make your backup, restore with Cloud paused, then launch once to confirm before re-enabling. Restoring while Cloud syncs usually gets overwritten.
