Where Does Serum Store Presets and Wavetables?

Serum keeps its preset library in a Serum Presets folder: Documents on Windows, Audio Presets on Mac. Installing banks and moving it.

Last updated

Serum's entire library hangs off one Serum Presets folder. Factory content, your User bank, third-party packs, skins and wavetables all branch from there. If Serum shows a skins folder missing error, this folder moved or lost permissions, and that message is the tell.

Never hunt for it blind. Open Serum in your DAW, click Menu, then Show Serum presets folder to land exactly right. Installing a bank means dropping it here and rescanning. Relocating works too: move the folder, point Serum at the new spot once, and every subfolder follows.

Where Serum stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\Xfer\Serum Presets

User banks in Presets\User beneath it. Xfer support confirms Documents\Xfer as the default root. Non-ASCII characters anywhere in the path break loading, so rename those folders.

macOS
/Library/Audio/Presets/Xfer Records/Serum Presets

System-level audio path shared across DAWs. Permission faults after migration yield to sudo chmod -R 777 on the Xfer Records tree. Presets are cross-platform .fxp files.

Frequently asked questions

How do I install Serum preset packs?

Unzip the pack, open Menu > Show Serum presets folder inside Serum, and copy the pack into Presets. Rescan folders on disk or reopen the DAW. Splice downloads land in a Splice subfolder here automatically when paths are default.

Serum says the skins folder is missing, what now?

The presets root moved or permissions broke. Reinstall the full (not update) installer to rebuild it, or point Serum at the relocated folder. On Mac check ownership of /Library/Audio/Presets/Xfer Records first.
