Where Does Vital Store Presets and User Data?
Vital keeps user presets in Documents\Vital\User\Presets on Windows (~/Music/Vital/User on Mac, ~/.local/share/vital on Linux), with the data folder override in Vital.config.
Last updated
Vital splits factory content from user content on disk. Presets you make or download belong under the User folder inside the Vital data directory: Documents Vital on Windows, Music Vital on Mac, .local share vital on Linux. Factory folders stay pristine for updates.
The data directory itself is movable through Vital.config, a small JSON file with a data_directory key. Point it at the new home before launching and everything follows. Moving folders without updating the config just gets you a fresh empty library, which surprises people every time.
Where Vital stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Vital\User\Presets
User presets, wavetables, and skins beneath User/. Install presets here, never into Factory. data_directory in %APPDATA%\vital\Vital.config overrides the location.
~/Music/Vital/User
Whole user enchilada: presets, skins, wavetables. /Library/Audio/Presets/Vital holds shared packs. Config at ~/Library/Application Support/vital/Vital.config.
~/.local/share/vital
Default data home settable in Vital.config data_directory. Must exist at launch or Vital resets it. Keep user folders separate from system paths.
Frequently asked questions
How do I install Vital presets?
Drop .vitalbank or preset files into the User Presets folder for your OS so Vital picks them up on launch. Wavetables go in the parallel Wavetables folder or any added folder. Keep user content out of Factory folders so updates never overwrite it.
How do I move the Vital data folder?
Move the Vital data folder where you want it, then set data_directory in Vital.config (%APPDATA%\vital on Windows, ~/Library/Application Support/vital on Mac) to the new path. The folder must exist when Vital starts or it resets to default. Use double backslashes in the JSON on Windows.
