Where Does SignalRGB Store Settings and Effects?

Where SignalRGB keeps VortxEngine data, WhirlwindFX layouts and effects.

Last updated

SignalRGB splits across three trees: LocalAppData VortxEngine for the app, versions, effects and logs; Documents WhirlwindFX for layouts and configs; Roaming WhirlwindFX for synced state the reinstall guide targets.

Downloaded effect sources hide hashed under cache effects folders. Registry exports cover a legacy slice only; folder copies are the documented migration. Launch once on new machines before restoring so defaults exist to replace.

%LOCALAPPDATA%\VortxEngine\

Frequently asked questions

How do I move SignalRGB to a new PC?

Quit fully, then copy %LOCALAPPDATA%\VortxEngine plus Documents\WhirlwindFX to the new machine after one launch there. Layouts, effects and macros travel as folders, not registry keys.

What survives a SignalRGB clean reinstall?

Back up Roaming WhirlwindFX first. Clean reinstalls wipe local-only effects and device configs; only account synced items return on sign in. Delete the folder after uninstall for a true fresh state.
