Where Does Sketchbook Store Drawings and Prefs?

Sketchbook keeps preferences in AppData or Library containers, with gallery art as TIFFs in Pictures on modern Android.

Last updated

Sketchbook (formerly Autodesk SketchBook, now Sketchbook Inc.) separates settings from art. Preferences sit in a versioned folder: Roaming AppData on Windows, a Library container on Mac. Delete that numbered folder and the app resets to defaults.

Artwork location depends on platform. Desktop files go where you save them. Android keeps Gallery TIFFs in a fixed Pictures folder. Do not rename those TIFFs in a file manager or the Gallery loses track of them.

Where Autodesk SketchBook stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Sketchbook, Inc\Sketchbook Pro\9.0

Older Autodesk builds used AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\SketchBook\8.0. Artwork files (.tiff, .psd) live wherever you saved them, not in this prefs tree.

macOS
~/Library/Containers/Sketchbook Pro/Data/Library/Application Support/Sketchbook, Inc/Sketchbook Pro/9.0

Show hidden Library with Option held in Finder Go menu. Desktop canvases are still user saved files, so back those up separately from prefs.

Android
/storage/emulated/0/Pictures/Sketchbook Gallery

Android 11 and newer path. Android 10 and older used Internal Storage > Autodesk > SketchBook3. Back these TIFFs to cloud storage regularly; uninstalls can clear them.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reset Sketchbook preferences on desktop?

Close the app, then rename or delete the numbered prefs folder above. On next launch Sketchbook rebuilds it with defaults. Custom brushes and hotkeys in that folder are lost, so copy it first.

Why does Sketchbook Gallery say failed to open image on Android?

The TIFF in Pictures and Sketchbook Gallery was moved, renamed, or deleted outside the app. Restore the exact filename from backup. Copy files out for safety, never move them away.
