Where Does Solr Store Cores and Config?

Solr search core indexes and server service config paths on Linux for standalone and cloud installs.

Last updated

Solr keeps indexes in a data home with one folder per core. Package installs default to /var/solr/data with solr.xml at its root. Each core folder holds index segments and conf sets.

Service settings live in /etc/default/solr.in.sh with heap and home overrides. Cloud mode adds ZooKeeper state beside the cores. Back up the data home with service configs. Index formats change between major releases. Config sets version schema per collection. Replication copies index segments to followers. Backups use replication handlers.

Where Solr stores this, by platform

Linux
/var/solr/data

Core indexes with one folder per collection plus solr.xml. Stop the service before copying for consistency. This folder dominates disk on search hosts.

Linux
/etc/default/solr.in.sh

Heap, home, and ZooKeeper settings for the service. Holds the data home override when changed. Keep with data backups for restores.
