Where Does Sonarr Store Its Data?
Sonarr keeps its database, settings and logs in an AppData directory that sits in a different place per OS and install type.
Last updated
Everything Sonarr knows lives outside its install folder. The database tracks every series and download, config.xml holds ports and paths, and logs rotate beside them. Losing this directory means reconfiguring from zero.
The location depends on how it was installed. Windows uses ProgramData, Linux package installs use a service account path like /var/lib/Sonarr, and manual installs follow the running user's config home. System > Info inside Sonarr prints the live path, which beats memorizing every variant.
Where Sonarr stores this, by platform
C:\ProgramData\Sonarr
sonarr.db is the database, config.xml holds ports and paths. Back both up with the service stopped. The -data= argument overrides this location.
/var/lib/Sonarr
Manual installs use ~/.config/Sonarr of the running user instead, and apt installs may use /var/lib/Sonarr. Check System > Info for the live path.
Frequently asked questions
How do I migrate Sonarr to a new machine?
Stop Sonarr, copy sonarr.db plus config.xml to the same path on the new box, then start it. The database holds series and history, config.xml holds ports and paths. Logs can stay behind.
Can I run two Sonarr instances side by side?
A second instance needs its own data directory via the -data= argument with its own port in config.xml. Two instances sharing one database corrupt it, so keep them strictly apart.
