Where Does Sonata Store Its Config?
Sonata keeps its MPD client settings in a sonatarc file under the XDG config home on Linux. Path and what it holds.
Last updated
Sonata is a thin MPD client. Profiles with host, port and display options live in one sonatarc file under the config home. Playlists shown come from the server at connect.
That split keeps the client folder tiny. Losing sonatarc costs preferences, never music. Recreate the profile against the same MPD host and the library reappears.
Where Sonata stores this, by platform
~/.config/sonata/sonatarc
Connection profiles, interface preferences and playlist cache references. Music stays on the MPD server. Copy with Sonata quit for a clean snapshot.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move Sonata settings?
Copy sonatarc to the same relative path on the new machine. Connection profiles and UI preferences travel with it. Music itself stays on the MPD server, so point the restored client at the same host and port.
Where is my music library?
On the MPD server in its music directory and database, not in Sonata. Sonata only holds connection details, playlists cache and interface tweaks. Back up the server side for the actual collection.
