Where Are Space Marine 2 Save Files Located?
Space Marine 2 saves under a Saber folder in LocalAppData with your SteamID inside. Path, server sync note, and Linux.
Last updated
Space Marine 2 ignores every usual folder and keeps saves under LocalAppData\Saber\Space Marine 2\storage\steam\user\[SteamID]. The Saber-publisher folder surprises everyone looking in Documents or the Steam userdata tree. Inside the numeric folder, Main holds the campaign and mode progress.
Progress also syncs with Saber's own servers, which cuts both ways: it can rescue a wiped local install, and it can overwrite hand-swapped files you expected to stick. For manual backups, copy the whole numeric user folder while Steam is offline. Linux mirrors the layout inside the Proton prefix for app ID 2183900.
Where Space Marine 2 stores this, by platform
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Saber\Space Marine 2\storage\steam\user\[SteamID]
[SteamID] is your numeric Steam account folder; Main inside it holds the progress files. Saber's support team asks for exactly this folder when debugging lost progress. Server sync can overwrite hand-swapped files, so work offline when restoring backups.
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2183900/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Saber/Space Marine 2/storage/steam/user/[SteamID]
The Windows layout mirrored inside the Proton prefix, where 2183900 is the game's Steam app ID. Some installs use ~/.steam/steam instead of ~/.local/share/Steam. Server-side sync applies on Deck too, so the offline rule for restores holds there as well.
Frequently asked questions
can i recover lost space marine 2 progress
Usually yes, if the server still has your progress. Saber support's own advice is to switch Steam to offline mode and check whether the local saves reappear. If they do, archive the whole user folder and send it to support, who can push the saves back to the server so they load online.
why do swapped space marine 2 saves not load
The game syncs progress with Saber's servers, and swapping files while online gets overwritten or rejected. Back up the user folder, disable cloud sync, and replace files while Steam is offline. Modded installs complicate this further, since mods can block saving entirely.
