Where Does Splice Download Samples and Presets?

Splice downloads library sounds into a Splice folder: home folder on Mac, Documents on Windows. Syncing, Serum exceptions and cache.

Last updated

The Splice desktop app mirrors your web library into one local Splice folder, organized by pack. Adding a sound on the site downloads it automatically while the app runs. Anything grabbed through the browser instead lands in Downloads and never joins the managed folder.

Serum presets break the pattern. They download straight into Serum's own presets tree when it sits in the default spot, bypassing the Splice folder entirely. Move or rename the Splice folder only through the app's Preferences, then use Go to folder to confirm the new home.

Where Splice stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\Splice

Samples and presets by pack. App cache for repairs sits in %LOCALAPPDATA%\SpliceSettings. Browser-only downloads (including all MIDI) go to Downloads instead.

macOS
~/Splice

Directly in the home folder, not Documents. Serum presets instead appear under /Library/Audio/Presets/Xfer Records/Serum Presets/Presets/Splice. Sync All in Preferences pulls the whole licensed library down.

Frequently asked questions

My Splice sounds won't download on Windows, what helps?

Reinstall the desktop app, confirm free disk space, then clear %LOCALAPPDATA%\SpliceSettings with the app closed and reboot. Check write permissions on the Splice folder path shown in Preferences before retrying.

Where did my Splice Serum presets go?

Into Serum's presets folder under a Splice subfolder, not the main Splice folder. If you relocated Serum's library, presets fall back to Splice/presets/Serum and need a manual move into Serum's tree.
