Where Does Submagic Store Projects and Exports?

Submagic captions live in cloud projects with exports downloaded as video files, nothing local by default.

Last updated

Submagic is a web-first captioning studio, so projects, transcripts, and caption styles live in your account rather than on any device. The apps are windows onto that cloud workspace.

The portable copy is the exported video file, downloaded deliberately per project. Anything still only a project has no offline form. Export finished shorts, keep the project for re-edits, and the archive question answers itself.

Where Submagic stores this, by platform

Windows
Account cloud (projects); downloaded exports

Projects and transcripts sync from the account. Download exported videos for archives; browsers hold cache only.

macOS
Account cloud (projects); downloaded exports

Same cloud-first design. Keep exported videos outside the downloads folder if shorts matter long term.

Android
Gallery (exports); account cloud (drafts)

Exports save to the gallery as finished videos. Drafts stay in the account, not on the phone, so reinstalls cost nothing synced.

iOS
Photos app (exports); account cloud (drafts)

Same split: finished videos in Photos, projects in the account. Save exports to Files as well for work worth archiving.

Frequently asked questions

How do I archive a finished short?

Export the captioned video first. The project stays editable online, but the downloaded file is the copy that survives account changes.
