Where Does SuperTuxKart Store Add-ons and Progress?
Where SuperTuxKart keeps add-ons, replays, grand prix progress, and config.xml on each OS.
Last updated
SuperTuxKart keeps one user folder per OS with config.xml at the top plus addons, replays, and challenge data underneath. Linux uses the XDG data dir, Windows uses Roaming AppData, macOS uses Application Support.
Add-ons nest one level down by type. That structure is stable across versions, so zipped community packs extract cleanly into place. The in-game manager remains the easier route when online.
Where SuperTuxKart stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\supertuxkart\addons
Add-ons in addons/ (tracks, karts, arenas), progress and config.xml beside it. Older builds also read /usr/share/games fingers; ignore those for user data.
~/Library/Application Support/SuperTuxKart/addons
Same addons plus config.xml layout. Open via Go to Folder since Library is hidden.
~/.local/share/supertuxkart/addons
Same layout under the XDG data dir. Grand prix files loadable via --add-gp-dir live elsewhere only if you pointed flags there.
Frequently asked questions
How do I install add-on tracks manually?
Drop the add-on folder into addons/ under the paths below (tracks into tracks, karts into karts, arenas into tracks). The in-game Add-On Manager does the same thing with less fuss; manual copy is for offline installs.
How do I migrate progress?
Copy the whole user folder (config.xml, addons/, grand prix and challenge progress) to the matching path. Keep versions close; very old progress files can confuse a new release. Server configs travel separately via --server-config.
