Where Does Synergy Store Config and Keys?

Synergy screen config plus TLS identity on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Last updated

Synergy keeps screen layout in synergy.conf plus server fingerprints nearby per OS. The GUI writes it, services read it.

Copying config moves layouts between machines. Identity files must travel too or clients reject the server. Exact filenames may vary by major version.

Where Synergy stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Synergy\synergy.conf

Layout plus TLS identity beside it. Copy with Synergy stopped. Fingerprint trust lives in the same tree; regenerate when clients complain.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Synergy/synergy.conf

Same role as Windows AppData. Use Go to Folder in Finder. Keep perms tight on key material.

Linux
~/.config/Synergy/synergy.conf

Follows XDG config home (older builds used ~/.synergy.conf at home root, so check both). Screens plus hotkeys travel in one file.

Frequently asked questions

Where is synergy.conf?

In the per OS dir above. That file names screens plus links. Validate hostnames after edits; a typo strands the cursor on one screen.

How do I move Synergy to a new PC?

Copy synergy.conf plus identity files, then fix screen names and IPs. Re-trust fingerprints on clients. Test with the log window open.
