Where Does Tasmota Keep Backups?
Tasmota keeps config on the device flash, with .dmp backups wherever you download them. The split explained.
Last updated
Tasmota stores the live configuration on the microcontroller flash, not on any computer. What you see in the browser comes from the device each visit. Files only enter the picture on backup.
Backups are .dmp downloads you place yourself, usually in Documents. That surprises people hunting config folders. No download means the only copy rides inside the device.
Where Tasmota stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\config.dmp
User downloaded .dmp snapshots of device config, saved through Configuration then Backup in the web UI. The live copy stays on device flash. Name files per device and date.
~/Documents/config.dmp
Same export model on Mac. The browser download folder receives the file; move it beside install notes. Live config remains on the device until overwritten by restore.
~/Documents/config.dmp
Identical handling on Linux. Automate pulls with HTTP commands when backups must run on schedule rather than by hand.
Frequently asked questions
Where are my Tasmota backups?
Open the device web UI, then Configuration and Backup, and download the .dmp file to Documents with the device name and date. Each file is one snapshot. Without a download there is nothing on disk to find, since the device holds the live copy.
How do I restore Tasmota?
Upload the saved .dmp through Configuration then Restore in the web UI and let the device reboot. Templates, rules and Wi-Fi return together. Keep one backup per device, since files do not transfer across different module types cleanly.
