Where Does teamocil Store Layout Files?
teamocil reads session YAML layouts from ~/.teamocil by name, with --layout, --edit and --show for files anywhere.
Last updated
teamocil maps layout names to YAML files in ~/.teamocil: windows, panes, roots, commands and focus flags. The --edit flag opens them in $EDITOR, keeping layout authoring inside the tool.
Shell completions enumerate the same directory, so a missing layout in tab-complete means a missing file, not a syntax error. Version the folder and every machine reproduces your dev environments exactly.
Where teamocil stores this, by platform
~/.teamocil/
Session YAML by layout name. --show prints instead of running; zsh/bash/fish completions read the same directory.
~/.teamocil/
Same drawer. Layouts declare root per window; --here reuses the current window as the first one for ad-hoc work.
Frequently asked questions
How do I create and run a teamocil layout?
Save the YAML as ~/.teamocil/<name>.yml, then teamocil <name> inside tmux. --list shows every available layout when names slip your mind.
Can I run a layout file outside ~/.teamocil?
Pass --layout <path>. Ad-hoc files run without installing, which suits generated layouts and one-off pair sessions that should never persist.
