Where Does smug Store Session Files?
smug reads session YAML from ~/.config/smug (or .smug.yml locally, or any path via -f), with debug logs beside it.
Last updated
smug keeps tmux blueprints as YAML: session name, root, env, windows, panes, hooks. The default drawer is ~/.config/smug, with .smug.yml in the working directory winning when present and -f pointing anywhere for one-offs.
Scaffolding beats hand-writing: smug new/edit open the file in $EDITOR, and a bundled helper can even interview you into a fresh config. Debug output lands in smug.log next to the configs when sessions misfire.
Where smug stores this, by platform
~/.config/smug/
Same layout. new/edit/print subcommands manage files without leaving the terminal; variables (${name}) template repeated values.
~/.config/smug/
Same files. Attach, stop and window selection flags compose (project:window1,window2) for partial session control.
Frequently asked questions
Can a session file live inside its project?
Save it as .smug.yml in the project root. Local file beats the config dir, so repo sessions travel with the code while personal ones stay home.
