Where Are Teardown Save Files Located?
Where Teardown keeps campaign saves, quicksaves, mods, and screenshots across its three folders on PC.
Last updated
Teardown spreads itself across three folders with strict roles. Campaign progress and quicksaves live in LocalAppData, mods and screenshots sit in Documents, and the Steam install holds game files you should never touch. Most confusion comes from looking in the wrong one.
The save file is a single savegame.xml with versioned backups beside it after trouble. Mod corruption writes the most common obituary, and the fix is a file swap away. Back up the LocalAppData tree before reinstalls; Steam Cloud will not save you here.
Where Teardown stores this, by platform
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Teardown\savegame.xml
Campaign savegame.xml with versioned backups plus quicksave.bin for sandbox moments. Documents holds mods and screenshots separately; the Steam folder holds game files only. Copy the LocalAppData tree before OS reinstalls.
Frequently asked questions
how do I back up Teardown progress
Copy savegame.xml plus any savegame-backup files from the LocalAppData Teardown folder with the game closed. Mods and screenshots live in Documents and travel separately. Reinstalling Windows without this copy wipes progress completely.
save corrupted by mods, how to recover
Replace savegame.xml with the newest savegame-backup file in the same folder. Mod-related corruption is the usual cause, and a patch era made this routine. Keep the broken file aside until the restore proves good.
which Teardown folder does what
LocalAppData holds saves and quicksaves, Documents holds mods and screenshots, and the Steam folder holds game files. Touch only the first two. The quicksave.bin file captures sandbox moments separately from campaign progress.
