Where Are The Forest Saves Located?

The Forest save folder on Windows, macOS and Linux under the Unity SKS tree with slot folders.

Last updated

The Forest is a Unity game, so saves sit in the engine's per-developer folder under SKS rather than anywhere near Steam. Each account gets a Steam ID folder with SinglePlayer and Multiplayer slot directories.

Slot folders move freely between single-player and multiplayer. Copy the whole TheForest folder and every slot travels together.

Where The Forest stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\SKS\TheForest

Saves sit under your Steam ID subfolder in SinglePlayer and Multiplayer slot folders. Copy the full TheForest folder with the game closed. Old alphas used a single resume file at the top level, so legacy backups look different.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/unity.SKS.TheForest

Same slot layout as Windows. Use Finder Go > Go to Folder since Library is hidden.

Linux
~/.config/unity3d/SKS/TheForest

Same SinglePlayer and Multiplayer slot folders as the other builds.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up The Forest saves?

Copy the entire TheForest folder with the game closed. Each Slot folder is one game, and the Steam ID folder keeps accounts separate.

Can I move a single-player save into multiplayer?

Yes. Copy the slot folder between the SinglePlayer and Multiplayer directories inside your Steam ID folder.
