Where Does ThrottleStop Store Settings?
ThrottleStop files every undervolt and power limit in one INI beside the exe, with no registry footprint.
Last updated
ThrottleStop is aggressively portable by philosophy. Nothing touches the registry, everything lives in ThrottleStop.INI beside the executable. The folder is the entire application state.
That simplicity carries one rule: keep the folder path identical across moves or start over. Updates preserve settings by replacing only the exe, leaving the INI in place. Backups mean copying one folder, preferably with a known good INI versioned.
Where ThrottleStop stores this, by platform
C:\Program Files\ThrottleStop\ThrottleStop.INI
Always beside ThrottleStop.exe wherever you extracted it; the common spot is shown. Copy the whole folder to identical paths for migration.
Frequently asked questions
How do I migrate to a new PC?
Copy the whole ThrottleStop folder to identical paths on the new machine. Same location matters: moved folders should start fresh instead. Include RwDrv.sys if turbo limits were locked.
Should ThrottleStop auto start?
The author warns against auto starting aggressive settings that could wedge a boot. Use Task Scheduler deliberately with known safe profiles, and keep a fallback INI for recovery.
